Here is the supercharger I would start with...

I would have no issues running a pulley 5-8mm past the end of the motor shaft. There doesn't need to be much side load - the teeth on the belt help us out a lot. I agree a second bearing would be nice, but I kinda doubt it's necessary. The biggest advantage we have over the RC guys is that we're only running our motors for literally seconds at a time. Thanks for this pulley info! I need to step out for a bit, but I'll poke around online later and see what I can find.

Frankly, I'm rather excited about this particular setup. This opens the door for so many people who don't have access to machining stuff. If you do it carefully, all you'd need is a skill saw, a drill press and a file. Heck, I built two blower setups in the 90's and early 00's without much more than that. The only welder I had was a HORRIBLE Harbor Freight flux core. I spent a lot of time grinding ugly welds.

hah ... eureka: or we could use a "hollow" input cog/pulley with the cavity facing downwards and mounted "high up" the motor shaft.
The cavity would have a portruding motor shaft and space for a 2nd bearing and a elevated bearing seat... 🤓

and btw ... the mouth opening of the P-2 cup on top of the outputshaft allows only for so much belt angle ... so either a tensioner pulley is required ... or we live with a max diameter of the input cog to come 🤓

found this :

not sure what 1.5" notch means ... in contrast to 15mm belt width (less than 1")

@AlexLTDLX ... can u please have a look?

(all the pulleys are "hollow" ... looks promising, no?)

It does look promising; but also a bit expensive. I'd think a better and cheaper source would be to find a timing belt that fits. I found this site to help identify it:

Maybe even see if a 3d printer belt fits (from a pitch perspective - you wouldn't want to use one consumer printers anyway.)

Maybe a belt like this:

And pulleys like this (can even get them with a D shaped 8mm bore):

That blower really does look like a Vortech Si knockoff - even the impeller. In fact, rather than building a massive unit for more power, I think I'm just going to build a bunch of units based on the Speedmaster blower. Of course, I need to get some data on the new packs' performance first.

Update :

Looked closer at the pulley of the outputshaft of the P-2

Unfortunately it is NOT a HTD pitch (High Torque Drive).
(no circular grooves here!)

The only possible pitch types would be
- XL type (trapezoidal inch pitch of the ~5mm) OR
- AT type 5M pitch (trapezoidal metric, "asymmetric")
- T type 5M pitch (trapezoidal metric, "symmetric) <=== I would say THIS one!

while the ebay ad for the pulley in @AlexLTDLX post looks perfect for a 8mm flat spot (D) shaft of the TP motors, unfortunately it would require a HTD 5mm pitch belt and the corresponding pulley on the outputshaft.

So either we manage to find a 25mm wide T5M belt and T5M 18 (or 15 for 1.2 : 1 underdrive) tooth pulley which mounts nicely to our 8mm D shafts ... OOR ... we swap everything for HTD pitch stuff (far more souces!)

T5M belts and pulley are possibly those:

From Chiaravalli Timing Pulley catalog I learn the 18 and the 15 tooth aluminium pulleys obviously come with 6mm pilot bores ... would need machining! (the ebay photo is the same as in the Chiaravalli pdf!)

To run 2 x 18teeth pulleys with 5mm pitch with centers 85 mm apart you would need a belt of 260mm length (or 52 5mm pitch teeth)

THIS one:

sooo ... I ordered 3 pulleys (18, 15, 12 teeth) (I assume we are running against a load wall and need more torque ... and I have the 1000KV version on targeted 48V) ... and the 52 teeth belt 😜

stay tuned...

And here the latest update:

Particularly interesting for the "belt drive" variant!

So I found the seller boltonbearings UK on ebay and ordered THIS:

1) Timing Belt T5, 5mm pitch, 25mm wide (T5-260 52 teeth)
2) Pulley T5 36T5/12-2
3) Pulley T5 36T5/15-2
4) Pulley T5 36T5/18-2

after a shipping mishap with Royal Mail the guys stood up and sent everything again "registered".

Looky what came today:

Yes ... the pulleys need machining to accept the 8mm shaft and some holes for the set screws ...
But it WILL be a clean solution! 🤪

(unfortunately my AliExpress battery order had to be disputed ... shipping "irregularities" by the seller. Waiting for the money to come back now... then need to pick better seller and order again)

i can't get batteries out of china too, which in theory leaves me stuffed. I guess i'll have to focus on the compressor again then

eyeballing 2 (48V) of those now 😜:

balancer built in, well packed, big capacity, high enough discharge

that link doesn't work on a pc
oops ... above link updated.

... and I just found them on ebay as well (as Fisker Karma modules refurbished and more expensive).

Soooo ... Fisker is not buying them anymore from A123 systems.
Wondering if the AliBaba seller just has A123 factory surplus or is selling "refurbished" stuff as well. 🤔
