What batteries are you using?

Why not use your existing LTOs to replace your car battery? I think they're safe at the arctic temps you live in... you know, with polar bears strolling through your yard and all...
 
FWIW, the 100 ah LiFePo4 battery I now use in the LTD makes the old lead acid battery look like a weak, underpowered, overweight joke. And I can charge the e turbo pack from it a bunch of times and still have plenty of power to start the car.

We still hunt beaver for they fur 😂 HAHAHA honestly I was to lazy to make the battery and yes it would be a nice idea. But instead, I prefered change my battery 2 weeks ago outside at -25° .. go see where is the battery in a ford focus 2012-2018 you will understand why I said to myself "why did I wait to change the damn battery"

Ahhaha we dont have a lot of outdoor hobbies at this temperature 😂 hand brake in the snow is pretty much the only hobby I have right now 🥴 ice skating is better at -10 .. anyway is the last big snow drop of the season today.. its pretty bad

Has anyone tried to use the car audio batteries? You can get them at very high amperage and charge them with your alternator at 12v.

I'm new to this just creating my plan and could build a battery pack but would rather buy something. What are the ups and downs to these? They are used for 1000's of watts of continuous bass no problem. Pair with a 200 or 300amp alternator to charge it and the car battery...

 
Depend on weight and size your goal is. I had a set up of LTO the size of a normal car battey. It was 34v and they give me enough amps. Just don't have enough capacity. 48 pounds for a battery is too much for me. When you think you will need at least 3 maybe 4 of these, I dont think is a good idea.
 
The Ah of a battery. For example, the pouch cells we talk up there is 20Ah cells. For the size of it, it's verry good! We talk a lot between LTO and Lifepo4. Why? Because they are suuuuuper safe to use in car. LTO are super powerfull but they have less capacity then lifepo4. So this is why I change for lifepo4, because I dont really need all this power but more capacity. We will see if I've made a good choice
 
Ok, so realistically how much ah do we need based on your experience?

I get what your saying with LifePO4, it can continuously release power for a longer time period than LTO.

What the size of you engine car and what's your power goal?
It depend of A LOT of things. But if I can tell you my experiences
If you want something like me, 5.9Ah was barely enough for a good run. I had a lot of load on the battery and ESC so I need to upgrade. It takes 2-3 minutes to recharge, so this was the only good part of it. So I will go with 15 or 16 cells in series. So I think it will be enough for a nice 1/2 miles and normal street use!
If you think like Alex, and you want over kill batterys, follow his example 😂
 
I'm going to use 2 rc motors gear them up 3 : 1 to produce around 100000 - 150000 rpms to spin the turbo. Two motors should help keep them cool and not have to much load on each one.

That will give full boost on a GT45 or HX35, i currently run an HX35 on my DSM. Its a 4 cylinder turbo, currently making around 550hp on AWD.

So 15 cells should produce around 90 ah, your saying that should be enough to spin your turbo to full boost or something less? I guess I need to do some testing to get my real answers but not there just yet.
 
I will run it in 15s1p so 48v 20Ah. @MkngStffAwesome first want to make a dual motor like yours. I don't know if you should get a blower like Alex and cmoalem or a turbo. Turbo are harder to spool
 
I running a turbo at low boost for my N/A car. About 4-5psi with the weak battery. That is enough for me. I have a gt35 turbo
