If that's all you wanted .... the Torque amp setup sounds like a good idea to me vs developing your own thing. I do wonder about the diverter valve you'd need to have and whether that would prove to be a major PIA. Without it I think the TA would rob rather than add to power at the top end.
I've got one car with an exceptionally effective electric supercharger and another with a very fast spooling/great top end turbo. I developed both systems. So I know both methods can work great and there are advantages to each.
To me, keeping it simple and concentrating on getting a great...
My take would be to ditch the turbo altogether and go P2 with pwm throttle control.
Or ...even better .... spend the money on a fast spooling turbo like the BW EFR series.
Full mapped pwm control of eSC via throttle is now in place.
Very handy having an electrical engineer son in law!
This is the icing on the cake for this project . Have yet to fully test and tune this but I've a feeling it's going to be a huge improvement in drivability.
Just took apart my P2 SC to replace the bearings as it felt rough to rotate and the wheel had been touching the outer housing.
This is my take on the issues mentioned in this thread :
1/The bearings for these are rated at 22,000 rpm only yet they are expected to spin at over double this.
2/The...
It's hard to get a decent result without spending a good chunk of moola - even if doing it all yourself.
But, you can do much better than a Torque Amp could ever do by doing it yourself, if you are prepared to do the research and make it happen. Biggest challenge for me was learning how to make...
Update : Upgraded to a 400A ESC that has datalogging. Have tested this and it definitely outperforms the Hobbywing max4. Also about to upgrade the BMS from 220A to 340A continuous, upgrade the battery bus bars and pretty much all the wiring. This is in an effort to reduce voltage drop from rear...
If it's an ESC that requires a pwm signal , you need to convert a 12v signal from a switch mounted on the throttle to pwm. A 'servo tester' will do that but you will also need a realy to switch it on. Set the pwm signal for the speed you want and you are away.
Firstly ...12v lithium batteries are not a good solution. You need to design your batteries to be able to cope with outputs of up over 30Kw to even be in the ballpark for your goals. See Alex's LTO battery pack.
Forget about the idea of circuit racing ...not going to be viable for any more than...
Depends on whether you can get a motor/esc combination to run at that rpms with enough power to do the job. Allowing for the extra 10% or so power loss through the gearbox. The reason the P2 is what so many of us use is because it excels in the rpm ranges that suit readily available hobby...
IMO you need to get tuning software and tune it for boost. Trying to do it mickey mouse style might be ok for 1-2psi but it will severely limit the potential of your system once you start raising the boost.
