Turning on the motor from an ESC

Need some ideas how to switch the motor on via an ESC in the vehicle. I can make the motor spin with a servo tester and an arduino (using a pot) but can seem to get it to turn straight to maximum speed (simulating an ECU turning it on).
What are my options?
 
Yes but I cant make the arduino work. Could you possibly post the arduino sketch? I dont think I am initialising the ESC correctly
 
I asked a guy at my local hobby shop about this. He did some digging and came up with this :

So I bought one and am happy to report that it works perfectly. Even tried it out working in close proximity to my lipo batteries - no issue. Initially had trouble programming the ESC for it but another conversation with the hobby shop guy and voila! Didn't realise you have to program in stop/forward AND REVERSE.
Has the added benefit of three positions - which makes a two speed setup easy.
Ended up buying a small plastic box to house it in along with the relay - pretty happy with how it worked out.
