supercapacitors instead of batteries?

have seen supercapacitors around for a while was wondering it they may be a better option than lithium plymer or lithium ion batteries. they can quickly discharge high amounts of current and does not risk cathing fire like some lithium batteries. is this a real option or is the low storage a huge hinder. they do atleast seem safer for use for someone inexperienced with litium polymer batteries.

thanks i will take a look at those

Supercaps won't work - there voltage discharge curve is linear and their power densities are miserable. I have a supercap the size of a car battery under my second desk. It's neat and all, but except for starting gas engines, it's kind of useless.
