Electrified Boost banned in USA

Drone components banned from import into America by the FCC because the pose an unacceptable risk to national security.

How will Americans build these things if the motors and batteries are banned?

Back in the last decade the USA decided that Aluminium bars and pipes and similar products made from solid aluminium in New Zealand were a threat the the national security of the USA. Maybe they thought we were hiding spies in the bars 😆

It occurs to me that the companies making these components will seek other markets. Maybe more will be available to America's enemies to make military drones if they are not being bought for a harmless hobby. You can bet the weapons smugglers will be able to deliver them.

What they probably mean is that they will be illegal for the average citizen to have and restricted to government/military use.

Says a lot for the IQ of the administration. Every citizen can own multiple assault weapons - but hobby motors, batteries, RC gear etc NO NO NO!

We will have to stick with E-Motors for model cars, model boats, garden equipment etc. No doubt all E-Motors in future will be labelled suitable for every conceivable use (except drones).

I don't see how they can identify drone motors over RC car motors. They'd had to ban all of them.

yea, its weird, the USA forgetting about the main benefit of capitalism, that being competition.

If US customers can't import these items from other countries then US companies have no reason to invest in R&D. The bean counters will see to it that the R&D money goes towards short term gains for share holders. And most of the customers wont even know they only have second rate gear to choose from.

i could be wrong but i'm looking at powerfull bldc motors for quite some time and the one made for drone propellers are usually different than the ones for rc trucks and boats. maybe the little ones have the same bare shaft but going larger, it seen that propeller motors get designed with a flange to install the propeller. Some even have the rotor outside like an e-bike wheel.
But i agree that custom agents won't see the difference...
