    VESC(ted) ESC trial

I really wanted the VESC solution to work, it looks great. Decent hardware, CAN communication, so many settings to play with, diagnostics etc etc. But after reading Alex his experiences and also the VESC forums it seems it simply not that stable yet, missing the basic features and not really...

    Mazda RX-8 P2 build

I was afraid this was going to happen eventually, thanks for letting me know. I'm currently looking into taper lock pulleys to prevent this, but that might not work perfectly since the shaft has a flat spot / d-shape. Also, the minimum tooth count would be 24T. @brettus8 what would you say is a...

    What batteries are you using?

Simple answer: It does not ;). Parallel connected batteries are exactly that, connected in parallel with as little resistance as possible. They "keep" each other "balanced". The balancer is balancing the average of the parallel connected cells. It's the reason why I generally do not like...

    Mazda RX-8 P2 build

Made some mockups today before making the actual brackets. Not entirely happy yet, bolt pattern is a bit weird, it isn’t using a circular pattern for the M10 (?) holes. And the pattern doesnt align with the belt cover pattern 😅. Tried to add a belt tensioner but needs some more tweaking. The...

    P2 Supercharger Thread

Found out that in my case the friction was mainly caused by the cover for the rear bearing being too tight. After untightening these bolts the impeller spins freely again.

    Mazda RX-8 P2 build

I have been reading along the forums for quite some time now, but as I received my P2 supercharger last week, it is probably time to start my build thread here as well. The plan is to, just like Brettus his build, add a P2 supercharger to a Mazda RX-8. On paper, new, they claim do to 231 HP at...

    P2 Supercharger Thread

Great, that’s what I’ll do. Any information on the bearing size by any chance?

    P2 Supercharger Thread

Just got mine in today. Also quite stiff and I would say it stops spinning almost instantly like you’re describing. I do also recognize the sound from @Miikka1 though, mine makes a similar sounds, just doesnt spin as freely. I wonder if this is ok? @brettus8 do you have any insight on this...

    RX8 Renesis Rotary eSC

Wow. That motor is huge! Really looking forward to your results. The shaft seems bigger as well, requires a new pulley?

I bought a Hobbywing ESC - Is this our Holy Grail?

I'm afraid this is a really really bad idea. One of the most important factors of battery health is cell balancing, adding cells with a different state of charge to a battery pack under load will result in uneven load of the pack with unbalanced cells as a result. When doing this with common...

Want to build 500Hp electric turbo, people with experience please chime in

That looks like a great charger, does it allow you to adjust the charging voltage for LTO cells? I’m going with a Victron Orion charger myself. Similar concept, and you can modify the end voltage using the app. Victron is very well known for their electronics for off grid and recreational...

Want to build 500Hp electric turbo, people with experience please chime in

If a charger is not made for this purpose I would not recommend this. Chargers in your phone are quite advanced, while normal charger will follow a predetermined charger profile based on some parameters like 1/10 of charging current, a certain voltage etc. When the battery is being loaded while...

I bought a Hobbywing ESC - Is this our Holy Grail?

For a normal Lithium (polymer) battery the nominal voltage is 3.7 V, the maximum, fully charged voltage is 4.2 V. Generally 3.3 V is considered empty

    RX8 Renesis Rotary eSC

What’s currently the bottleneck in your system? It simply does not want to spin any faster? How much current is the system currently drawing? Did you already try with other pully ratios? I'm guessing the 70125 should be able to pull some more current without melting apart. Looking forward to...

I bought a Hobbywing ESC - Is this our Holy Grail?

Overvolting ESCs is never a good idea, getting them to run reliably at their rated voltage is already tricky. The Max5 is designed for a smaller class of RC cars, I would expect the Max4 to be a better choice / have better ratings
