The capacitor created problems for me. Needs a circuit that slows down the charging of it, which I thought was above my abilities, so I just removed it .
Upgraded batteries/BMS/Charger installed and operational. Over the moon with how well it all works. Some numbers from the BMS show 10kw at high rpm which lines up pretty well with what I was expecting.
Just one I found on Aliexpress for LTOs 'ANT smart BMS' rated for 220A (550A peak) . I have no idea about these .... but am hoping it wont be too much of a mission to hook up - doesn't look too hard. I found my stock 100A alternator could easily manage the 35A charger I had previously. The new...
Update , a month or so back I decided to make a small change to the wiring. Wanted to have the charging wire such that it could be isolated with flick of a switch instead of constantly connected to the batteries. In the process of making this change I managed to short the batteries to ground for...
The shaft power to make say 10psi of boost at say 70% compressor efficiency will be the same at the same mass flow irrespective of whether there a turbine is driving it or an electric motor. However the electric SC may be flowing more mass at the same engine rpm/boost due to lowered exhaust...
Did some messing with Matchbot and came up with 6% for the 20C drop in temps I'm seeing which is equivalent to around 15whp. I think the logs would show something if I was getting that much but I still think there are other factors in play as mentioned above.
I'm in NZ too. Bought two sets of batteries off AliExpress. They took about twice as long as when buying other stuff but arrived in good condition nevertheless.
Update : Fitted water/meth kit . Just a single nozzle to the volute. Has dropped IATs by at least 20C and improved midrange but no difference in peak power. I suspect boost is actually dropping even more than before ( IE cooler air but same power at lower boost ) due to batteries unable to keep...
Thinking about why we get so much power for so little boost. ........... Saying 14.7psi should double the power assumes that all the things that rob power from an engine will still be doing that at the same percentage of the total as you raise boost. This isn't what actually happens. The water...
That virtual dyno result was on a cool morning (18C) before the engine/eSC was heatsoaked. It's the best result I've seen so far so possibly it's a little flattering. Pretty much every log is over that 234 mark however so it does seem to be doing particularly well for the amount of boost there is.
Took the car for a decent drive through the 'twisties' a couple of days ago to see how long the batteries would last etc.
Managed 24 mins of 7/10ths driving (public road so not going too wild) before the batteries ran out of juice. The ambient temp was 22C and the batteries reached 45C max...
yes ..3.5psi
ESC starts the motor from a signal I'm taking off the car ECU for rpm. Put this in series with a vacuum switch so it's load/rpm based.
Only reason for not using a BOV is that I'm not running enough boost to need one - nothing to do with electric or not.
Update:
Fitted new CNHL 90c 9500mah batteries. Didn't really notice much difference but they do at least last a bit longer than previous ones and hopefully wont overheat when pushed.
Also fitted larger 15T pinion. Made a little bit more power, but in testing (after a short period of heat soak) I...
