Guys ... I am not qualified as in "studied electrical engineering" ... I am a sofware guy ... but without sounding like a fan boy, here in simple words why I like the FOC principle:
Regulation (high res) of phase currents!
(by not only "sensing" rotor position through back emf, but actually...
yeah ... somehow my gut feeling is telling me the MGM/LMT combo is less complicated to "dial in" on the P2. (unscientific for now ... would take some time to explain and might be subjective here and there)
But what I am particularly interested in would be a VESC/LMT combo on the P2... how THAT...
... and if you feel comfortable to dive in here the wizards were discussing the topic 2 years back ... just before the version 5 frimware:

needs really fresh memories of some electrical/physics classes ... ahhem
btw ... paltatech are working on real high power...
Thanks @AlexLTDLX !
at times I feel bad because my contributions here so far are "behind schedule" and more on the theoretical side.
But until now you are the man going through most of the practical "experiments", development cycles (and pitfalls) and sharing your valuable findings here so we...
wow
now the context of "weight saving" power adder is more clear.
bad ass history in many ways ... and melting ESCs and arcing loadtesters and welding with the battery pack seems only fun now "on the way to eBoost" 🤣
wow, I would have probably chickened out if I had found your facebook post before (wondered a LOT why I could not find much regarding P2 Supercharger googling)...
while I can confirm those 22000 max rpm bearings still being used: mine did not show most of the rough edges you found in 2017.
And...
yep ... those 20ah nano phosphate pouches are close relatives of the 8ah ultra phosphate pouches.
The discharge capabilities are only slightly better on the 2mm thinner 8ah pouches.
If you put those 20ah pouches in enough parallel, then you should be fine too 🤓
I read some of the comment on utube:
hitting surge? ... nah ... it happened on different rpm/current levels, didn't it. (easy to check as well with different "restrictions")
the boost/needle dancing is not the cause, it's the effect, I would say.
6 pole motor on the VESC ... what is your...
ahhemm ... I should be quiet now 🤣
here currently the temps are so nice that I am distracted by my "other outdoor hobbies: dune/desert offroading, motorcycling, spear fishing ... "
🤗
looks and first IR test (single cell! but I am shooting for 16s4p => 16x(0.125mOhm) overall):
Post in thread 'What batteries are you using?' https://www.electrifiedboost.com/threads/what-batteries-are-you-using.8/post-1082
do I recommend them? can't say yet ... battery case and clamping...
I looked at them too, but after some research I declined from buying cylindrical A123 cells! (after the first purchase order actually had to be refunded due to fake shipping)
Their new mother company (who bought A123) stopped producing any cylindrical cells in 2017! (only prismatic pouches are...
Welcome to the forum ... nice to have you here with all of your experience.
Since 2002 ... wow ... I bet the log book of your journey fills a LOT of pages, not just the very interesting intro post.
Looking forward!
(and yeah, having enough ah with high enough discharge rate to power a street...
Somehow I have the feeling a sensored 2pole LMT3080/6 875KV (~1000KV) would play nicely with the VESC. Much better than the TP motors ...
(2pole and sensored both would unload the compute requirements quite a bit ... and the LMT3080s with 30kW peak will do easily 15kW work far from saturation )...
@AlexLTDLX ... quick question:
Are you getting the sensored version of the LMT30100?
I have the feeling the VESC will work better with a 2 pole motor like the LMT ... and the sensors (if sensored) most likely will help a lot with syncing the motor in low(er) throttle positions.
oh ... in the RC world those overbuilt/expensive brackets are very common.
MGM is e.g. having this one:
https://www.mgm-controllers.com/mgm-controllers-motor-mount
made me a bit nervous, LOL
and as you said it is the aluminum casing of the motor where I am concerned about regardless of the...
hmm ... I have no hands on equipment and tools here ... but:
Here is the latest RELEASED firmware location for the 75/300 (you don't want to go BETA now!)
https://github.com/vedderb/vesc_tool/tree/master/res/firmwares/75_300_R3 seems to have "updated status" 2 days old...
(assuming you have the...
