Hello from South Africa. My You Tube Channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC-bfLzUmpusI_czwLHGmSyw

Thanks for joining ( I'm from face book ) .. can you tell us all about your build i detail
( i have already seen your videos )

Hi all, some history on Madi Electric Turbo, when and why.

Firstly I am not in business selling ET's, I can build one on request but this was not started for business intentions but rather for possibilities and sanity.

The costs to build my ET is very high due to all the nonsense going on in the world. 2500 USD, it is too much. Started in 2015 with the project.

I started the project when I lost my daughter Madison, bad phase in my life, this is why I call the turbo Madi.
I am using lipo battery Cells, 100Ah per cell. @10 Cells = 35 Volts and pulling +-150Amps at 0.4 Bar boost due to the massive spool I am using and the big spool delivers air flow needed for this Quattro 3.0i. Dyno video on YT.
Motor used is a 2700kv. Sleeve's around the motor rotor to keep the magnets intact, used to split the magnets apart at > 80K RPM's.
Used an AR70 Housing and machined it out to accommodate the bigger spool. Must be more like an AR90 now
😅
.
Controller is an Alien 350Amp can take up to 16 Cells so there is lot's of room left.
I will do > 1.5 Bar with the new controller coming in as I reached the efficiency curve of the Spool. Looking forward to post the video.

I have nothing to hide so please let me know if there is more details needed for your interest. Stay safe.

Is verry impressive that you can achieve 1.5bar! What exactly is your motor?
I watch your short video for a long time now and honestly, I never beleive that you would be able to get that much boost in your motor. Check out my set up
I'm about 0.5 bar through all the RPM

Thanks for the feedback, I will respond to the questions today.

I did play with gears and belt gears but was thinking to keep it simple to allow easy maintenance on the ET. I have not yet one Mechanical failure on any Turbo. I did experience some ESC failures but that was my inexperience that caused the failure. Some test ET's boosting 0.3 Bar was running for 2 years without any problems so I think it is a winning solution.

Once I have funds to buy the new ESC I will do the 1.5-2 Bar test and share the video again. They are very expensive. (Exchange Rate)

Stay save all.

What ESC do you want to buy ?
Also for everyone's benefit whey you say 1.5-2 bar you just mean peak boost when the compressor is complete blocked right ?

Motor
In one of your videos the shaft looks incredibly long. Why is it so long ? /How long is it (that might be key to why this worked)

Cells
Cool FYI you should call them LifeFo4 not lipo's

The compressor wheel
cool you found that one.. I was trying to find that exact one with the 8mm bore but couldn't

I think i read somewhere that you are just pushing the wheel onto the motors shaft and retaining it there with locktite (or some thing like that) without even using a grub screw is that true.

FYI i dont think saying "AR 70" is helpful to anyone.. Should it not be called HX55 ?

The question about selling them came from a picture like this which shows a number of them

Thanks for your replies I'm sure they will help some one

After about two years of making the ET work I had a car magazine and some interested people looking to make this a business but it never materialized, I did manufacture some units for them but the feedback was that people did not believe it is possible or trust worthy, well I guess any new product will have these challenges and also business is good for conventional turbos, the ET could pose a threat you know. There is some serious guys out there....

I did make some ET's for my motor head close friends who tested the ET's for durability and they indicated they would not drive their cars without an ET on it. I was rather impressed that they liked it and that they appreciated the additional Power(it was only boosting 0.2-0.3 bar). That is where most pictures was from on my Facebook page. I was at a couple of shows with the ET's later on but again no positive feedback and some angry people....

Some ET's ran for Two years until they sold their cars and we removed them. Like I said I did not start this project for business but to prove it is possible and to keep my mind safe. I guess soon people will start to see the potential of ET's and buy in but for know the likes of this group will have to push it alone forward.

From my point of view I can replace a conventional Turbo as the boost is possible now but at the very high RPM's to achieve 1 Bar I think their may be some maintenance required on the units. I really want to install the 1 Bar unit on a vehicle and run it for 6 months to test actual durability, although the bearings was designed for > 80K rpm's I am worried about the back thrust. Also I need to work on how to gradually bring the ET to max speed to not overwhelm the engine with a sudden rush of 1 Bar boost.

Yip I only use Loctite to put the spool on the motor shaft and once it is on you will need to cut it off, I tried to remove them but you cant, need a rather big hammer to get it off.

I did start off with Lead acid batteries as well and they did work fine but found these new types of batteries helps to keep the power for longer, they really did come a long way with from the acid batteries to the lipo and as you mentioned LifeFo4. I was also thinking of super caps but they cost too much $. There is so much potential and I really hope it will get an acceptable option for vehicles.

So less oil changes due to oil not running through the hot conventional turbo, no intercooler needed, no oil feeds needed to the ET, you can remove the ET when selling your car and never loose your initial investment. The the list just goes on on pros.

Most of all have fun and stay safe!

People believing Et's dont / wouldn't work has always annoyed me.. Because clearly ( from a physics point of view ) they will work provided you apply enough electrical power to them. And that has always been the problem with ET's people simply didn't apply enough power to them to work..
In a relatively short period of time Motor, ESC and battery tech has massively improved making it now possible.

To be honest the best thing that happened to ET's was "Cleetus McFarland" videos. After that people now believe they work. People are funny cause ET's worked before those videos but no one would believe it.

Personally i wouldn't want to sell them. All i can see is a legal nightmare if something was to go wrong.
Running dry bearings at the RPM we have been talking about will never be reliable (10 years) in my opinion.. They really need to be oiled like real Superchargers and Turbos. im intending on oiling mine.. In saying that people should be trying to use ceramic ball bearing, which i have brought up on a different thread.

As for easing the power on, reading the throttle or pedal position of the car then using that to increase the ET's speed would be one way to do that. That will also massively improve drivability of the whole system. I'll be doing this if i ever get their.

I'll be getting a VESC ESC because it has some truly amazing features that will make the whole system much smarter and sloving a bunch o issues that other ESC's cant ( not even the MGM's) . Sadly Alex has never done a video on the features that really excite me about it.. But i understand that in a drag car not much matters.

What is rpm limit and power limit on this motor? It seems rpm limit is too low...
